Officer involved shooting in Lansing left one person dead

There has been an officer involved shooting in the 4500 block of Aurelius Road in Lansing.

The Lansing Police Department has said that there has been one fatality as a result of shooting.

On 1/5/2023 at approx. 5:00pm, Officers from the Lansing Police Department were dispatched to a radio call of “shots fired” in the 2000 block of Irene Ct.

Officers arrived at scene and could hear gunfire upon their arrival. Officers at scene requested additional units to respond. Officers from the Michigan State Police who were in the area responded to assist.

Officers from the Lansing Police Department and Michigan State Police encountered a suspect who was armed with a handgun. At that point an officer involved shooting occurred.

Officers secured the suspect and rendered first aid. The Lansing Fire Department responded and provided medical treatment. The suspect was pronounced deceased. A handgun was recovered at scene.

Per the policy, the investigation into this incident has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.
