A devastating car crash occurred in Louisa County on the previous night, resulting in the death of a student from Louisa County High School.

An investigation is underway by the Virginia State Police after a solitary vehicle accident in Louisa County that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others.

According to the Virginia State Police, the accident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25.

The police reported that a 2006 Pontiac Torrent was heading south on Bibb Store Road in Louisa County at an excessive speed when it went over a hill, left the roadway, struck two trees, and caught on fire.

At the time of the accident, there were five teenagers in the vehicle. One of them died at the scene, while another was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

The remaining three teenagers in the car, including the driver, were also taken to a nearby hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the police, the accident is believed to have been caused by speed, but not by alcohol. The driver was given two summons at the hospital, one for reckless driving and another for driving beyond passenger restrictions. The accident is still being investigated.

LCHS Principal Lee Downey conveyed the following message to pupils, faculty, and their families (the student’s name has been omitted): “If you require someone to speak with, support is accessible at Louisa County High School.”
