Large police presence at Loaf ‘N Jug on Haines Avenue

On Friday, an officer was involved in a shooting that took place at the Loaf ‘N Jug located on Haines Avenue in Rapid City. The gunfire caused one individual to be injured.
At approximately twelve o’clock, a call was received by the police stating that an individual was holding the clerk hostage with a knife. The guy may have been attempting to conduct what is known as a “suicide by cop,” according to the police, as he stated multiple times that he wanted the police to arrive.
A bystander tried to take the knife away from the suspect, but the suspect got it back and kept the clerk as a hostage.
Officials say that when the officer got there, he fired his gun at the suspect, who fell to the ground.
The suspect was taken to Monument Health Rapid City Hospital after police had made sure the scene was safe.
Officials say that the clerk did not get hurt.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is now in charge of the case. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Rapid City Police Department were among the agencies that came to help.
This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
