Oprah Winfrey’s father Vernon Winfrey dead at 88

VERNON Winfrey, Oprah Winfrey’s father, has died aged 88.

A very few days after the famous TV personality announced on social media that she was on her way to Nashville to see the local businessman, he passed away.

Oprah said on Instagram over the weekend that she was in town to visit her husband and “deliver him flowers while he’s still well enough to smell them.”

Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey were in a relationship for a brief period of time before the birth of Oprah, but they did not get married.

Oprah had just been in town the previous weekend to celebrate her father, and this turn of events appears to have been foresightful on her part.

On July 4, she planned a Vernon Winfrey appreciation day as a surprise for him. This day gave the community the opportunity to express their gratitude to Vernon for his work as a former member of the city council and as a veteran local businessman.

As Oprah put it, “Because my father is unwell, we wanted to find a way to celebrate his life with all of his friends while he was still able to take in the happiness that was being shared with him. So, that is the action that we are taking.”

At the center of the backyard BBQ, where all of Vernon’s loved ones and friends gathered to honor him, a barber chair provided an ideal perch for the guest of honor.

Over the course of more than half a century, he had owned and run the Winfrey Barber & Beauty Shop, which earned him a cherished reputation in the neighborhood. Someone who worked for him shared with us that “Vernon would give you the shirt off his back.”

The celebration of her father’s achievements is something that Vernon’s daughter has been doing for a very long time, and she does not hide the fact that she is quite proud of her father.

When Oprah still hosted her daytime talk show, she would sometimes bring the cameras with her when she went to visit her father at his business.

In the days leading up to the party on Monday, it was very clear that she was really enthusiastic about preparing the event.

Oprah claimed in a series of videos and photographs that she shared to her Instagram account that she was “going back to my Nashville roots” as she helped her family prepare a barbecue.

Oprah mentioned earlier this week that she wanted to give her father his flowers while he was still alive, and her timing could not have been better.

Oprah has admitted that she was subjected to sexual assault beginning when she was just nine years old.

According to what was reported in the Post, she freely admitted to being a “promiscuous” and “crazy” teenager and having become pregnant at the age of 14.
