Orie Shannon McDearmond identified as suspect in shooting at Cullman Funeral Home
Cullman funeral home shooting injures 2, suspect arrested: ‘Pray for the family,’ sheriff says

The suspect from the shooting that occurred earlier today has been identified as Orie Shannon McDearmond (33) of Cullman. He is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center with no bond. McDearmond has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault / Attempted Murder (2 counts)
- Assault / Aggravated Assault / Family – Gun (2 counts)
On Monday morning, a shooting took place at Cullman Funeral Home during a funeral, according to Sheriff Matt Gentry.
As a result, two people sustained injuries.
Sheriff Gentry, along with Cullman Police Chief Dave Nassetta and District Attorney Champ Crocker, held a press conference outside the funeral home located on Highway 278 East to address the incident.
According to Sheriff Gentry, a male and female were injured in the shooting but their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The male suspect was swiftly apprehended in the funeral home parking lot.
