Orsus Brischetto drove the car – an Audi R8 – up to almost 300 km per hour, while a friend, in the passenger seat, was filming the speedometer rising with his mobile phone.

Orsus Brischetto, 22 years old, had been passing other vehicles at rates of approximately 200 miles per hour prior to his deadly collision near the Casilina Est gas station.

The footage was captured by his 20-year-old friend in the passenger seat as the Audi wove between motorists on the well-lit highway at night.

He proceeded to record the rising speedometer with his cell phone as the duo sung along to music, until the driver lost control and collided with another vehicle.

Moments after the arrival of emergency personnel, subsequent images depicted vehicle components dispersed across the highway.

Local news source L’Unione Sarda said that a passenger and the pregnant driver of the second vehicle were sent to the hospital with significant injuries.

Sadly, the Audi driver passed away shortly after the collision.

Since then, Italian authorities have confirmed they have launched an investigation.
