Police officer Bobby Shisler shot in Deptford Township, suspect killed

Shisler underwent surgery and is reported to be in stable condition as per FOX3 sources.

On Friday afternoon, in Deptford Township, New Jersey, a police officer identified as Bobby Shisler of the Deptford Police Department was shot in the leg in the area of Doman Avenue, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. Shisler was quickly transported to Cooper Medical Center, and a fellow officer applied a tourniquet to his wound en route.

Shisler underwent surgery and is reported to be in stable condition as per FOX3 sources.

According to authorities, a male suspect was fatally shot during an encounter with a police officer. No further details were given about the shooting incident.

On Friday, police focused on two crime scenes – one on Delsea Drive, where officers concentrated on a house, a neighboring business, and a grassy area behind the home, and the other on Doman Avenue near Cobblestone Lane.

A neighbor named Danny Howell described what he saw on his home surveillance camera when a man collapsed and was injured on his front lawn, running down the street holding his waist.

Another neighbor, Emily Secord, initially dismissed the sound of gunshots before seeing several police cars rushing down the street, setting up a perimeter and realizing that something was wrong.

According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, there is no danger to the general public, and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is overseeing the investigation.

As the investigation remains ongoing, various members of the community have offered their sympathies.

The Washington Township Police Department in Gloucester County posted the subsequent statement on Facebook:

“Chief Gurcsik and the entire Washington Township Police Department are praying for our Deptford brother who was shot today in the line of duty. Please keep the Deptford Officer in your thoughts and prayers.

Our police officers face unprecedented danger every day. There’s no time of day safer than others. No day of the week safer than the next.

Chief Joe Smith and the men and women of the Deptford Township Police Department, Washington Township stands with you and we are here for whatever you may need.”
