An Active shooter is in on a roof, has shot 2 police officers in Newark, New Jersey. Shooter is reportedly using a rifle and is actively shooting at Police.

Tuesday afternoon about 2:00, witnesses began calling in to report seeing the incident.

Police in Newark, NJ on Tuesday afternoon were on the scene of an active shooting where at least two police officers were wounded, reports said.

The gunfire broke out near Van Velsor Place and Chancellor Avenue in Newark.

Scanner reports indicated the suspect was armed with a rifle and firing from a rooftop.

According to sources within the law enforcement agency, one of the officers was shot in the leg, while the other was hit in the neck.

The cops were brought to University Hospital for treatment. They are in stable condition.

It appears, at least initially, that the officers were executing a search warrant when they were shot at, possibly from the roof or another high place. After retreating, the cops were driven by police to the hospital.

The suspect is not currently in law enforcement custody and may be engaged in conversation with officers at the site.

The locals were cautioned to keep away from the area entirely and to avoid going near it at all costs.

A representative for the Chancellor Avenue School claimed that the school had been locked down out of an abundance of caution, but that all of the students and staff were unharmed.

Despite the fact that there was very little information immediately available, Governor Phil Murphy tweeted that he was keeping an eye on the situation:

“I am aware of and closely monitoring an unfolding situation in Newark. I am in touch with local authorities and the State is providing resources as requested. We will continue to support local law enforcement and ensure that all residents are safe.”

No suspects have been identified, and there has been no information immediately released regarding any arrests.

We will provide any new information that we have in connection with this occurrence.
