On Friday morning, West Springfield Police received a phone call reporting a threat at West Springfield High School, but it was later discovered to be a “swatting” call.
The call was received at approximately 8:23 a.m. through the E-911 system and was similar to other “swatting” calls made in the past month.
As a safety precaution, West Springfield High School was placed on lockdown and police were dispatched to the school.
After conducting a thorough search of the premises, the threat was determined to be a false alarm and the lockdown was downgraded to a shelter-in-place.
While the building was being cleared, a second hoax threat was called in, but it was immediately identified as false.
The school resumed normal activities by 8:51 a.m., with police blocking the entrance to the school earlier and several cruisers near the administration office entrance.
The police left the area within 30 minutes.
