3 dead and multiple injured including 2 police officers in active shooter situation in Farmington, suspect killed

Update: Farmington Police Department, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Mexico State Police are on scene investigating an incident involving an active shooter in Farmington.

At this time, the details we have are that multiple officers from the Farmington Police Department were involved in an officer involved shooting.

One suspect was confronted and killed on scene. The suspect’s identity is unknown and there are no other known threats at this time.

Two officers were shot, one from the Farmington Police Department and one from New Mexico State Police, both currently at San Juan Regional Medical Center being treated for their injuries and in stable condition.

There are multiple civilian victims with at least 3 deceased.

Initial Report:

Reports of shots being fired in the vicinity of Brookside Park in Farmington came in shortly after 11 a.m. As a precautionary measure, law enforcement established a perimeter spanning several blocks, with command center located at Dustin Avenue and Navajo Street.

Initial scanner communications suggested that one shooter was still at large, and there were indications that up to three individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. The suspect was reportedly armed with two pistol-type weapons.

To aid in the search for the shooting suspect, helicopter support was dispatched. One of the victims, a 35-year-old male, was reported to have sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.

Sadly, in the 700 block of North Dustin, a deceased young Caucasian male was discovered, but no further details about the victim have been disclosed at this time.

An unofficial statement from a San Juan County deputy mentioned that the shooting incident resulted in three fatalities.

While initial reports suggest that two officers may have sustained gunshot wounds, these reports have yet to be verified.

In response to the situation, law enforcement closed off multiple blocks of Dustin Avenue and implemented a preventive lockdown across all schools. Specifically, Apache Elementary, McKinley Elementary, and the Cate Center were put on emergency lockdown at 11:34 a.m.

At 11:40 a.m., the preventive lockdowns were lifted for all schools except Apache, McKinley, and Cate.

These three schools in the immediate vicinity continued to remain under emergency lockdown. Several vehicles and residences were reported to have sustained bullet holes.

According to scanner communications, a vehicle in the 600 block of Glade Road was found with its windows shot out, and blood was observed inside the vehicle.
