A number of different law enforcement organizations are reacting to unconfirmed reports of active shooter at The Bancroft School in Wilmington, Delaware.

Thursday saw an escalation in police presence at several schools in Delaware due to anonymous and unverified warnings of an active shooter.

The Newark Police force has confirmed the upping of security measures at schools within their jurisdiction while verifying the credibility of the threat.

Meanwhile, the Christina School District has also been informed of the situation. The Delaware State Police announced on Twitter that they were looking into the matter, which involves multiple schools.

As of now, no safety issues have been reported. DSP is cooperating with the schools to implement safety protocols for the protection of students and staff.

The Delaware police are currently looking into the possibility of the threats being authentic or a case of “swatting,” a practical joke in which an individual falsely reports an emergency by manipulating their phone number and location to deceive emergency services and draw armed SWAT teams to the location.

This act, once confined to gamers’ circles, has now spread to a more significant audience and is used by white supremacists to target minority groups, as well as other individuals who aim to instill fear among public officials.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
