Santa Fe Police arrested Eric Rosas after reports of man with gun at Walmart

Police ask public to please stay out of the area.

Santa Fe, NM – February 22, 2023, At approximately 4:58 PM, Santa Fe Police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun at the Walmart Supercenter. It was reported that the male entered the store and told an employee to “call the cops.”

According to store employees, the male suspect who was wearing a gray hoodie and camouflaged colored pants, walked into the restroom and a short time later, the sound of at least one gunshot came from inside the restroom.

Store employees immediately acted to evacuate customers from the store. The male was observed walking out of the restroom, and exited the business at which time he fled the scene in a silver, Chevrolet pickup truck.

The male suspect, later identified as Mr. Eric Rosas (33 years old) of Santa Fe, drove recklessly away from the business to Mutt Nelson Drive, where he crashed into a guardrail near the intersection of Ridgeline Road.

Arriving officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and Mr. Rosas was taken into custody without further incident.

Mr. Rosas has been charged with the following:

  • Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon in a Public Place with Posted Signs
  • Negligent Discharge of a Firearm
  • Criminal Damage to Property (Over $1000.00)
  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (2nd offense)
  • Resisting, evading, Obstructing an Officer.
