At least one person shot with non-life-threatening injuries, Suspect is in custody

After a gunshot occurred in the downtown area of Athens on Thursday night, the police report that one 17-year-old is currently recovering in the hospital.
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department reports that the incident took place on the 300 block of Clayton Street at approximately 11 p.m.
Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the victim, a 17-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound. The teenager was taken by emergency personnel to a hospital in the area, where he is currently being treated for injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
During the course of their response, the police came into contact with a second juvenile, aged 17, who had been observed fleeing the area while reportedly brandishing a firearm. That adolescent, whose identity has not been made public at this time, was taken into custody and arrested for a variety of offences linked to firearms. The suspect is being questioned by investigators as they attempt to determine whether or not he is connected in any way to the incident.
