Whidbey naval station lockdown lifted after unconfirmed active shooter threat

Update: According to a spokesperson for the naval base, Ault Field at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island was given clearance after a lockdown due to unconfirmed reports of an active shooter on Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas Mills stated that no reports of injuries were received, and that base security had responded to the situation north of Oak Harbor after an active shooter threat was reported around 4:30 p.m.

All personnel on Ault Field were instructed to take cover and remain in place while base security conducted a thorough search of the area.

Following the search, no threats were found, and all operations returned to normal.

Squadron is executing Active Shooter protocol due to a reported threat in the vicinity of building 385 (base operations), near the tower.

All base personnel at Ault Field have been ordered into lock down status and all gates are closed. All personnel on Ault Field are ordered to seek shelter and stay in place.

Security personnel have responded to the situation, which is located north of Oak Harbor. All personnel at Ault Field have been ordered to remain in their current location and all gates have been closed.

The deputy public affairs officer for the naval base, Thomas Mills, stated that there have been no reports of any injuries.

Additionally, the nearby Whidbey Island campus of Skagit Valley College has also been placed on lockdown as reported on their Twitter account at approximately 4:30 p.m.
