Tom Ahern, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, has verified that the victims were shot “in the neighborhood” of the school, which is located at Cermak and Laflin.
A shooting that took place outside of Benito Juarez High School on Friday afternoon resulted in the deaths of two young men, ages 14 and 15, and the wounding of two additional teenagers.
The incident took place at approximately 1:50 p.m. on the 2100 block of South Laflin Street just as students at the West Side school were beginning to file out of the building for the day, according to the officials.
Stroger Hospital has confirmed the passing of 15-year-old Brandon Perez as well as a youngster of 14 years old whose identity has not been made public. According to the reports of the Chicago police, both boys were shot in the head during the incident.
According to the officials, both of the other teenagers who were taken to the hospital, a boy and a girl both aged 15, were in stable condition. According to the police report, the boy was injured in the thigh and the shoulder, while the female had a graze wound.
Officers received a radio communication informing them that a person wearing a black mask, black hoodie, and black North Face jacket was spotted racing west on Cermak Road and then north on Ashland Avenue.
At a news conference held on Friday evening, the Superintendent of Police, David Brown, stated that the investigation had not resulted in the identification of any suspects and that no one was being in custody.
Brown stated over and over again to the media that he did not have any answers for them but that “we are early in this inquiry.”
When the shooting started at Juarez, the school day had just about come to an end for the pupils there. A secretary who answered the phone at the school’s main office stated that Juarez High School was placed on lockdown immediately following the shooting, but that the all-clear was given by the police at approximately 3:30 p.m.
A student named Nava, who just provided his surname, stated that he was standing in front of the school for his father to pick him up when he heard gunshots coming from the direction of Ashland.
