Muhammad Al-Qahtani, a Saudi businessman who apparently resides in the United Arab Emirates, was delivering a speech at the Arab-African Conference in Cairo on Monday when he appeared to lose consciousness and fell backwards. He was taken to the hospital, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
According to reports, Al-Qahtani held a number of honorary posts as a goodwill ambassador in addition to his role as chairman of the board of directors of Al-Salam Holding Company.
According to Arabi21, he had been giving a speech at the event prior to collapsing, which was held “in support of the achievements of [Egyptian] President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.” At the time of his collapse, he had been in the middle of his speech.
Just before he collapsed, he reportedly referred to Mohammed bin Zayed, the president of the United Arab Emirates, as a “dean of humanity and a man of peace.”
According to Abdullah Elshrif, an Egyptian YouTuber, Al-Qahtani passed away after security personnel removed him to a different room at the conference.
Arabi21 claimed that members of international, regional, and Arab organizations and bodies as well as a number of embassies and Arab personalities attended the event.
The reason of death for Al-Qahtani was not immediately known.
