Update: Five people have been killed in a shooting attack in Jerusalem this evening, and five others are injured. The attack reportedly occurred in or near a synagogue.

Initial reports indicate the attack took place in or near a synagogue, according to MDA, which is treating patients in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood.

On Friday evening, police and medics reported that a terrorist shooting incident at a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov area of Jerusalem resulted in the shooting deaths of at least five persons and the wounding of at least three others.

The terrorist reportedly opened fire after driving up in a car to a building that was being utilized as a synagogue in a neighborhood in the northern part of East Jerusalem and opening fire on the congregation inside.

According to the police, officers who were sent to the area located and shot the gunman. A handgun that had reportedly been used in the attack was found and taken into custody.

According to reports from the Magen David Adom ambulance service, its medical personnel pronounced five of the victims dead at the scene.

The Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital received an additional three victims, including a woman in her 70’s who is classified in critical condition, a male in his 20’s who is in serious condition, and a kid who is 14 years old and in moderate-serious condition.
