Fair goes on: Sheriff gives new info on shots fired incident at Canfield Fair

Update: According to Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene, eleven individuals were detained in connection with a fight and gunfire at the fair. Seven of the arrested individuals were minors, while four were adults.

Sheriff Greene informs us that only one of the detainees is in juvenile detention, a minor found with a firearm.

Two vehicles that were present at the scene were struck by gunfire.

According to the Sheriff, there are no reports of anyone being hurt.

FOX3 was informed by the Sheriff’s Office that there will be a heightened presence of law enforcement at the fair today. On Sunday evening, JAC Entertainment will be in charge of providing security for the Sam Hunt show.

The Canfield Fair issued a news release on Sunday morning announcing:

“The fair board will not stand for behavior like what happened Saturday night. They will do everything they can to make sure the safety of everyone at the fair, including putting more police on the scene for the rest of this year’s fair. We appreciate all that the Fair Police Department, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Canfield Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies do to keep the fair safe. Since the Saturday night incident is being looked into by the police, the board won’t say anything else at this time.”

It is anticipated that the Sam Hunt concert will take place regardless of the weather, and the fair activities will continue as scheduled today.

According to Sheriff Greene, the investigation into the underlying factors that led to the altercation is still ongoing.

Initial Report:

On Saturday night, there is a large presence of law enforcement officers at the Canfield Fair. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has responded to the incident.

When many fights broke out, one of our reporters was there to cover the scene. She stated that numerous persons were pepper sprayed, and subsequent to that, people began to flee the scene.

According to our sources, there were multiple confrontations, and at one point, shots were fired. According to our sources, a number of persons were taken into custody.

The Canfield Police Department has reported that they have located a gun and some clothing that are thought to have belonged to one of the suspects.

Gate C has been cordoned off with crime scene tape, and the authorities are not allowing anyone to leave through that entrance. People were able to exit through a variety of different gates.

The authorities have stated that the most important thing is to ensure everyone’s safety.
