Douglas County schools locked down after active shooter threat

Numerous reports of shootings at various schools in Douglas County have been deemed to be a hoax by law enforcement officials.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to FOX3 that no credible reports of a shooter have been received at any location as of yet.

Some schools have initiated lockdown procedures as a precautionary measure. Calls reporting shootings and injuries at local high schools, such as Roseburg High School, South Umpqua High School, and Sutherlin High School, began to come in around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, law enforcement officials are receiving false reports of an active shooter at various Douglas County schools.

Although all reports are false at this time, law enforcement is treating each report with the utmost seriousness and responding accordingly.

Additionally, they are working in tandem with school officials to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Authorities have advised parents against going to schools to collect their children as it is believed that these swatting incidents are intended to provoke police response and create panic.

Several media outlets have reported on these false school shooting claims spreading across Oregon.
