Suspect in critical condition after Mesa police officers-involved shooting near Alma School Road and University Drive
No officers were injured.

On Wednesday morning, there was a shooting involving Mesa police officers in the vicinity of Alma School Road and University Drive, which occurred after 7 a.m.
As per the police, the suspect was transported to a trauma center in a critical condition with injuries that were considered to be life-threatening.
Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the incident.
The suspect reportedly fired a handgun inside an apartment before fleeing across the street into a nearby residential area.
The police were able to make contact with the suspect in the neighborhood, but the suspect then opened fire at them, prompting the Mesa police officers to return fire.
Thankfully, none of the officers were hit by the gunfire.
Traffic has been closed on University Drive in both directions, from Alma School to Longmore, and drivers are being requested to avoid the area and take alternative routes.
