Suspect Sean Gathing in critical condition after officer-involved shooting in the City of Jennings

Detectives from the County Police Crimes Against Persons division are investigating an incident in which an officer was involved in a shooting.

The incident occurred near the intersection of McLaran Avenue and Main Street in the City of Jennings.

At approximately 10:38 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, St. Louis Metropolitan Police SWAT officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was being driven erratically in the vicinity of Rosalie and North Kingshighway in the City of St. Louis.

The driver of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, leading to a pursuit that ended around 10:47 p.m. in the City of Jennings when the suspect’s car became inoperable.

The suspect then fled from the vehicle while carrying a firearm and pointed it at an officer, who responded by firing their department-issued weapon and striking the suspect at least once.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to a local hospital where they are currently in critical condition.

Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the incident.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Sean Gathing, with one count of Assault First Degree, one count of Armed Criminal Action, and one count of Resisting Arrest by Fleeing.

Gathing is being held in custody on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
