Suspect Vernard Eugene McBride arrested and charged in connection to domestic violence shooting

This morning (3/10/2023) at approximately 7:45 AM, Greenwood County E-911 dispatchers received a call stating that a person had been shot at 554 Hackett Avenue. Officers and detectives were nearby and responded almost immediately.

The caller told dispatch that a male suspect left the residence and was heading across the street to another address.

As officers arrived on scene, one of them saw the suspect walking in the roadway and stopped him. Other officers went to the incident location where they found a female victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the left shoulder/upper chest.

Officers began providing first aid and paramedics with Greenwood County EMS as well as Greenwood City Fire Department arrived to treat the victim and transport her to the hospital.

What we know at this point is that this shooting appears to be the result of a domestic violence incident.

The thoughts and prayers of the police department are with the victim as she’s being treated for her injuries.

Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident. Vernard Eugene McBride, 28, of Greenwood is currently charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.
