Officials reported that a shooting occurred on Sunday night on Interstate 57, resulting in three fatalities, including a 1-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old boy sustaining injuries.

According to the Illinois State Police, the shooting took place in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 111th Street, and state troopers arrived on the scene around 10:40 p.m.

The 1-year-old victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she died several hours later, as confirmed by the state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Two men were also shot and pronounced dead at the scene by the Chicago Fire Department officials, and their ages have yet to be disclosed.

The 14-year-old boy was wounded and taken to Comer’s Children’s Hospital, where he is currently in fair-to-serious condition, as reported by fire officials.

Although it was not specified by the state police, two additional children who were present in the vehicle during the shooting were hospitalized for injuries sustained at the time.

According to a representative of the state police department, everyone inside the vehicle suffered some form of injury, ranging from critical to minor.

The police investigation prompted the closure of all northbound lanes on I-57 between 127th to 111th streets for a few hours, but the roadway resumed operation early Monday.
