According to a representative for the NYPD, the event did not take place inside the building.
A law enforcement source stated that on Tuesday afternoon, a freshman student at Tottenville High School who was only 14 years old was shot in the ankle outside of the school building.
According to the source, the sufferer was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where they are currently receiving treatment and are expected to survive.
During the incident, both of the suspects ran away from the scene while wearing ski masks, and the police are currently searching for them.
The youngster was reportedly seen in a photo that was going viral on social media appearing to be lying in a scrub area directly across the street from the school with blood on his right ankle while two cops from the NYPD stood over him.
One of the students who knew the victim described the 14-year-old as a “nice kid” and expressed the belief that the bullet was not intended for the child. “I don’t believe that it was meant for him at all. I believe it was one of the people standing next to him. He was never involved in anything.
A source indicated that following the incident, which took place at 1:57 p.m., Tottenville High School implemented a shelter-in-place procedure. Following the incident, more restrictive measures were implemented at a number of schools in the surrounding area.
