Trainee easyJet pilot Oriana Pepper, 21, died after she was bitten by a mosquito on her forehead and developed an infection which spread to her brain.

She was reportedly bitten by a mosquito while in Antwerp, and the bite seemed inflamed and swollen near her right eye on her forehead.
On July 7, 2021, she visited an emergency room at a hospital, where she received an antibiotic prescription.
After collapsing two days later, Miss Pepper’s boyfriend, James Hall, took her to the hospital so that she could be treated for her condition.
Three days later, on July 12, 2021, she passed away while in the hospital.
In the narrative finding that he recorded, the senior coroner for Suffolk, Nigel Parsley, stated that Miss Pepper passed away “as a result of a significant infection caused by an insect bite to the forehead.”
Her staphylococcus aureus infection and an insect bite to the forehead all contributed to her medical cause of death, which was listed as septic emboli, which are blood channel obstructions in the brain.
According to Mr. Parsley, an infection has invaded Oriana’s skin as a result of an insect bite.
After that, it traveled up into her carotid artery in her neck, which ultimately caused septic emboli to form in her brain.
Mr. Pepper said in a statement that was read at the inquest that his daughter “loved nothing more than to go flying with her dad and her brother Oliver, who was also learning to be a commercial pilot.”
Miss Pepper, who was also survived by her twin brother Oscar and her older brother Oliver, passed away with both of her parents there at the time of her passing.
After the inquiry, her mother stated that they had “established a small scholarship to encourage future women pilots” to pursue the career in Miss Pepper’s honor, collaborating with the British Women Pilots’ Association.
