A driver has been killed after an accident at the Battle Creek Air Show, according to the City of Battle Creek.

According to the information provided by the Battle Creek Police Department, the incident took place at approximately 1.10 p.m. on Saturday in Battle Creek, Michigan.

The event took place at the Battle Creek Executive Airport on the Fourth of July weekend during the pyrotechnic phase of the air show that was being held there.

After the explosion that took place during the performance by the Shockwave Jet Truck at 1:10 p.m., emergency personnel were called into action. The city issued a statement confirming that there was one fatality as a result of the incident.

Chris Darnell is listed as the driver of the Shockwave Jet Truck on the company’s website. His brother Neal, who pilots the Flash Fire Jet Truck, declined to comment when reached by FOX3.

Investigations are still being carried out at the spot by the Battle Creek Fire Department, the Battle Creek Police Department, and the Federal Aviation Administration; however, there is currently no additional information available regarding the driver.

According to Suze Gusching, who is in charge of media relations at Field of Flight, “He was doing his act and going down the runway.” While he was passing by the explosion, his truck went off the road and blew up.

Airshow postponed.

The Shockwave Jet Truck is part of the Darnell Racing Enterprise’s show team, which also includes the Aftershock Jet Fire truck and the Flash Fire Jet Truck. The teams have their headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.
