Officials are reopening Deer Valley Road after last night’s shooting that left two dead, and two officers hurt. Police have also identified the suspect, who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

On Sunday evening, a man in north Phoenix who was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and wearing tactical gear shot and killed two individuals and injured five others, including two officers. The shooting took place near the intersection of Deer Valley Road and 27th Avenue.

According to a news release issued by the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a call about shots being fired near businesses at approximately 8:30 p.m. The armed suspect began firing on numerous marked police vehicles as soon as officers arrived in the area. It was reported that four vehicles had been “riddled with gunshots.”

According to the police, one cop, who had been hit in the shoulder, stepped out of his cruiser and fired back at the suspect after returning fire to himself. Other officers removed him from the scene so he could receive medical attention elsewhere.

According to the police, a different cop was struck by shrapnel in his face and other parts of his body.

The local businesses were evacuated, and the persons inside were led to a secure location by the police.

The man can be seen on surveillance camera going through a parking lot before falling to the ground. According to the police, it appears the man committed suicide by hanging himself. The manner in which he passed away will be determined by the medical examiner for Maricopa County.

According to the police, the individual, who had not yet been identified, was located nearby with a firearm, multiple rifle magazines, incendiary materials, a gas mask, and a helmet.

The inquiry prompted the Arizona Department of Transportation to restrict Deer Valley Road between 27th Avenue and I-17 in both directions. It was anticipated to reopen at midday.

According to police, preliminary information and video footage from businesses in the neighborhood indicate that the suspect exited a motel room and began firing. The man opened fire on the motel and a car pulling into the parking lot.

According to authorities, a man and a woman inside the vehicle were shot and killed at the spot. Their identities were not made public as of Monday morning.

Three additional males who were hurt during the event were transported to hospitals and released.

The suspect was also seen hurling an unlit Molotov cocktail at a restaurant window, according to the police. Approximately at that moment, officers came on location.

The injured officers had non-life-threatening injuries; one of them remained hospitalized as of 7:00 a.m. on Monday.

On Monday morning, detectives were waiting around a motel room in anticipation of a search warrant.
