At approximately one in the afternoon, officers from the Puyallup Police Department responded to the apartment complex located in the 1700 block of East Main Street in response to a report of domestic violence, as stated by Sergeant Darren Moss of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team, an individual who contacted 911 stated that their ex-boyfriend had broken an order of protection against domestic violence by showing up to their residence and was hiding in a closet at the time of the call.
Before going to the scene, the police made sure that the 37-year-old man had both felony and misdemeanour warrants for domestic violence.
When the police got to the scene, the suspect was still locked inside. PCFIT says that when police tried to talk to him, he shot at the officers who were coming toward him, which made the police shoot back.
Two Puyallup Police Department officers were hit.
Police in Puyallup say that neither officer’s injuries are life-threatening.
Video from the scene shows that several SWAT teams and officers talked with the person. Charles Joyner of Northwest Motorsports sent over video that showed a lot of SWAT agents and what sounds like a gunshot. No one knows for sure where the gunshot came from.
Residents of the River Trail Apartments and the Addison Trail Apartments have been told to stay inside until the police arrive.
PCFIT says that the suspect came out of the apartment and turned himself in to the police just before 7 p.m.
He was sent to the hospital for treatment of a hand injury. Once he is discharged from the hospital, he will be booked for numerous charges of first-degree assault, violation of a domestic violence no-contact order, and outstanding warrants.
