Officials say that an Amazon delivery van hit and killed a toddler Tuesday afternoon in an Irvine apartment complex.

Just after 3:30 p.m., the Orange County Fire Authority and the Irvine Police Department responded to a complaint regarding an accident in the complex’s parking lot on the 300 block of Estancia, close to lower Peters Canyon and the 261 toll way.
The 23-month-old child passed away there, according to the authorities. Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department said the driver stayed to speak with officials.
Medical personnel hurried to the site and attempted to save the girl, but they were unsuccessful.
Investigators are still looking into what caused the collision, but they don’t think drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The van is operated by a contract worker, according to the police.
The victim’s identity remains unknown.
There were no other details available right away.
