Darius Miles and Michael Lynn Davis charged with Capital Murder in the deadly shooting of Jamea Jonae Harris

Jamea Jonae Harris, age 23, of Birmingham. A mother of a little boy, Jamea was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa early this morning.

Following a fatal shooting near the campus of the University of Alabama, basketball player Darius Miles and another guy named Michael Lynn Davis have both been charged with capital murder.

According to Captain Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the incident took place early on Sunday morning at the Strip off of University Blvd., which is located close to campus. According to him, Jamea Harris, 23, who was from the Birmingham region, was slain by gunfire.

“I will tell you that she was loved by all! She was a beautiful young woman who loved her family and most of all her five-year-old son Kaine! She was just trying to enjoy her weekend with her cousin that attends the University of Alabama and boyfriend,” Harris’ mother DeCarla Heard said.

University of Alabama basketball player Darius Miles and Michael Lynn Davis arrested for the murder of 23-year-old, Jamea Jonae Harris, of Birmingham in Tuscaloosa.

Michael Lynn Davis, 20, of Charles County, Maryland, and Miles, 21, a junior reserve forward from Washington, District of Columbia, were both charged with capital murder. Miles is from Washington, District of Columbia. According to Kennedy, the accusation of first-degree murder was brought about since the fatal incident involved firearms fired into a car.

“At this time, it looks that the sole motive was a brief dispute that these guys had with the victim while they were out on The Strip,” Kennedy said in a news conference on Sunday evening in Las Vegas. “The Strip” refers to the street where the incident took place. According to what he stated, the two of them had never been in a relationship before.

He claimed that at around 1:45 a.m., the driver of a different vehicle, in which Harris was a passenger, contacted campus police near Bryant-Denny Stadium and reported that someone had shot into it. The driver then allegedly returned fire. Kennedy refused to say who shot the gun or who was harmed, although one of the suspects was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A sad moment Miles said to someone as he was being led to a police car, “I promise I love you more than you can imagine.”

Miles was a member of the Crimson Tide’s bench while they were ranked fourth. An ankle injury forced him to miss the rest of the season for Alabama, and the team made the announcement before Saturday’s game against LSU. His biography was taken down from the website of the athletic department, and the university informed us that he “has been removed from campus” and is no longer a member of the squad.

According to a statement released by the university, “The University of Alabama’s most important focus is to ensure the health and safety of everyone who calls the campus home.” We are saddened by the tragedy that took place close to campus the night before, and we want the family and friends of the victim to know that they have our sincere condolences.

Kennedy stated that it appeared as though neither Harris nor Davis were linked with the university, nor did the driver of the other vehicle that was involved.
