University of Iowa on lockdown after reports of man with gun near campus

University of Iowa Public Safety Department reported a man with a gun on Monday at around 2:14 p.m. via a Hawk Alert.

At 14:14 on Monday afternoon, the University of Iowa issued a Hawk Alert to the campus community.

Situation update: Pedestrian and vehicular traffic should continue to avoid the area. Please use alternate routes and follow directions of first responders on scene.

Situation at ramp resolved. Law enforcement will remain on scene. Resume normal activity.

Students have been told to stay away from the vicinity of the Court Street ramp after the alarm was issued. There have been reports of a man carrying a firearm.

According to the Hawk Alerts, the UI Voxman Music Building has been given a shelter-in-place order by the police.

Court Street and Burlington Street are currently closed, thus the city has informed Iowa City Transit that they will be taking a different route downtown while they are closed.
