Watch: Video of state trooper shooting driver Mark Anthony Diaz with gun at traffic stop

Video of fatal traffic stop shooting released by NC Highway Patrol
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol requested that footage from Trooper Rodney Cook’s vehicle camera be made public.
Trooper Cook is seen in the video stopping a white pickup truck in Siler City for a seatbelt violation.
In order to verify his identity, he requests the truck driver to exit the vehicle. The man, identified as Staley resident Mark Anthony Diaz, 21, jumps out of the truck brandishing a revolver with the barrel circled in red. A shot is exchanged by Trooper Cook.
Highway Patrol reports that a passenger jumped out of the automobile and fled the area, but returned later. Upon returning to his vehicle, the trooper asks for assistance and removes Diaz’s revolver from his grasp.
Diaz was pronounced dead after being taken away from the site.
After an internal inquiry, Cook, a 16-year veteran, has been placed on administrative duty. This is standard procedure for trooper-involved shootings.
