WARNING GRAPHIC: Video footage of medical response to Highland Park shooting victims. 6 confirmed dead and about 24 admitted to hospital. (Warning: Blood)

Illinois police are looking for a “active shooter” who fired from a roof at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, killing at least six people and sending 31 others to the hospital.

Four hours after the shooting that changed what was supposed to be a fun event for the whole family in a rich suburb of Chicago into yet another horrifying bloodbath, the suspect was still at large.

During a conference held in the afternoon, the Mayor of Highland Park, Nancy Rotering, stated that “our neighborhood was terrorized by an act of violence that has shook us to the core.” “On a day that we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we are instead grieving the loss, the awful loss of life, and suffering with the terror that has been placed upon us,” said one person.

It is thought that the gunman was a Caucasian male between the ages of 18 and 24, with long black hair, and he was dressed in a white or blue t-shirt at the time of the incident.

According to the authorities, he is not just armed but also dangerous. Residents are encouraged to get in touch with the police and provide any information they may have regarding the occurrence.

Shawn Cotreau, a witness, stated that he observed the gunman when he was on the roof of a building that was located along the parade route.

Local hospitals reported that they were treating 31 patients, the majority of whom had been shot but some of whom had been injured in the frenzied attempt to flee the gunfire. The majority of the victims had received gunshot wounds.
