What we know about the lockdown at E.C. Glass High School

An unverified threat on the E.C. Glass principal caused a lockdown that Lynchburg City Schools reported was still in effect as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

“There was a threat to harm the E. C. Principal that we are taking very seriously. No one is currently allowed in or out of buildings,” LCS said in a statement. “All staff and students are safe in the building.”

Director of Equity and Community Relations at LCS, Ethel Reeves, stated that the principal is safe and secure.

Reeves reported that the school received a call at 7:55 a.m. containing a threat against the principal.

The Lynchburg Police Department stated that the ongoing investigation is still in its infancy and that they do not know when the lockdown would end.

LCS and LPD collaborate together to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We are working collaboratively to make sure that everyone is kept safe while the investigation continues,” Reeves said.

Officials have stated that there will continue to be a substantial police presence on campus and that worried parents and community people should avoid the area.

Lockdown protocols at the school include locking all classrooms and directing kids to take cover in place.

“It’s very early in the investigation to we’re working to learn more information as we continue to move through and work cooperatively with the staff here to keep everybody safe,” LT Joel Hinkley said.

Wednesday around 11 a.m., LCS said in a statement that LPD will perform a comprehensive search of the building.

LCS also provided information regarding transportation for EC Glass students.

Students who have not arrived at school should remain at home as no one is allowed in or out of the building.

Students who attend the Governor’s School, STEM Academy, and the Early College Program will be released at their normal times and should not report to the E. C. Glass campus.

Transportation will transport bus riders at those locations directly home.
