Hadi Matar is identified as the suspect who stabbed Salman Rushdie in the neck before delivering a lecture, years after he had been the victim of international death threats.

The man suspected of stabbing Salman Rushdie is named Hadi Matar but he was carrying this fake driver license at the time of his arrest.
The alleged attacker of Salman Rushdie in Chautauqua County is Hadi Matar, 24, of New Jersey, a law enforcement official told FOX3 He is currently in New York State Police custody while Rushdie is hospitalized.

At the time of the alleged assault, Salman Rushdie was being introduced at a summer literature festival held at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater in western New York. Hadi Matar, 24 years old, is the suspect in this case.
After the incident, Rushdie’s agent Andrew Wylie told the New York Times that his client is still on a ventilator and is unable to talk.
“The news is bad,” Wylie wrote in an email.
The nerves in Salman’s arm were cut, his liver was pierced, and he most likely will lose one eye.

Eyewitnesses stated that the author Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed on Friday during an event in the state of New York, sustained “ten to fifteen” blows as a result of the attack. One of them admitted that at first she considered it to be “a stunt.”
Rabbi Charles Savenor, who was in the audience for the speech at Chautauqua Institution, almost 100 kilometers from the city, claimed, “This person jumped onto the platform and began beating Mr. Rushdie.”
The perpetrator “punched or stabbed Mr. Rushdie 10 to 15 times,” according to an AP reporter.

The New York State Police confirmed the stabbing and stated that Mr. Rushdie was transported by helicopter to a local hospital. The perpetrator has been apprehended, according to the police, who declined to provide any details.
While Mr. Rushdie was being introduced before to giving his speech, the attack took place at approximately 11 am local time (8:30 pm IST). The Chautauqua Institution, which can be found in a more rural area of New York, is famous for the lecture series that it hosts during the summertime.
