Victor Steeman has tragically lost his life following an accident in Race One of the World Supersport 300 Race at Portimao.

Following a serious incident in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship’s Race 1 during the Pirelli Portuguese Round at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, FOX3 has learned that rider Victor Steeman passed away.

At Turn 14, Victor Steeman was engaged in a collision that affected multiple riders, and the race was immediately stopped because of the event. Immediately after the incident, medical staff and vehicles came at the scene, and the rider received treatment both at the trackside and in the medical center of the circuit, after which he was flown to the Faro Hospital by helicopter.

Steeman unfortunately passed away due to his injuries despite the best efforts of the medical professionals at the circuit, the marshals, and the staff at the hospital.

A statement from Victor’s family reads: “Something you have always been afraid of as a parent of a motorcycle racer has now happened. Our Victor could not win this last race. Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his passing, was able to save 5 other people by donating his organs. We would like to thank everyone for the way you have lived with us over the past few days. We will miss our Victor enormously.”

Steeman was having a fantastic season in the 2022 FIM Supersport 300 Championship, and he entered the Pirelli Portuguese Round with a chance to win the World Championship. Steeman won the 2022 FIM Supersport 300 Championship. He finished in a point-scoring position in 12 of the 14 races he competed in this season, thanks to his four victories, five podium places, and three pole positions. In addition, he etched his name into the annals of history by claiming the pole position in the World Supersport 300 class at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. This made him the rider with the most pole positions in the history of the category.
