An investigation is underway regarding a suspected murder-suicide that resulted in the deaths of five individuals at a residence in Miami Lakes on Friday morning.
According to Miami-Dade Police, officers were summoned to the home located at the 14800 block of Northwest 87th Court at around 10 a.m. after a relative contacted them seeking information about missing family members.
Law enforcement officials located the relative and surveyed the outside of the residence before discovering an unlocked window, as stated by Miami-Dade Police representative Alvaro Zabaleta.
Upon entering the home, authorities discovered the body of an individual who had apparently been shot.
Upon further exploration of the residence, officers discovered the remains of five people, three women and two men, all with indications of being shot, as reported by Zabaleta.
One of the men had an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detectives are presently attempting to establish the identities of the victims and their connection to one another, Zabaleta stated.
The situation is devastating for the family members who were present, with Zabaleta remarking, “You can only imagine for the family members that were here that this is extremely tragic to be able to find five individuals that are in there lifeless.”
Two of the victims, 54-year-old Yoanka Aguilar and her 34-year-old son Dhany Aguilar, were identified by family members.
According to relatives, a few of the family members had recently traveled from Cuba, while the other three individuals have not been identified.
The occurrence is still being examined, and no additional information is available at this time.
